Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 7, 2026

Countdown & Counter ("the App") is designed with your privacy in mind. This policy explains what information the App handles and how.

Summary

By default, your event and counter data — titles, dates, notes, photos, and tally counts — is stored only on your device and, where applicable, shared only between the App and its Home Screen/Lock Screen widgets on the same device. No account is required to use the App.

If you choose to sign in, you can optionally enable Cloud Sync (to back up and sync your events across your own devices) and Event Sharing (to invite other people to view or edit specific events). Turning these on sends the relevant event data — and, only for events you choose to share, the email address of whoever you invite — to our servers (Google Firebase) so it can sync between devices and people. Separately, the App uses Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics to help us improve the App. See the sections below for details.

Information You Provide

Event and counter data: Titles, dates, notes, categories, and counts you create are stored locally on your device using on-device storage. This data is never uploaded anywhere unless you sign in and enable Cloud Sync or Event Sharing (see "Account, Sync & Sharing" below).

Photos: If you choose to add a photo to an event, the photo is selected from your device's photo library and stored locally within the App's own storage. We do not access your photo library beyond the specific photo you select. Photos are never uploaded anywhere unless you sign in and enable Cloud Sync or Event Sharing for that event, in which case the photo is uploaded to Firebase Storage so it can be synced or shared — see below.

Account, Sync & Sharing

Signing in is entirely optional and is only needed to use Cloud Sync or Event Sharing. You can sign in with Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In.

Account information: When you sign in, we receive a unique account identifier and the email address associated with your Apple or Google account (Apple lets you hide your real email using a private relay address, if you prefer). We use this only to identify your account and, for shared events, to let you invite collaborators by email.

Cloud Sync: If you turn on Cloud Sync, your event and counter data (and any event photos) is uploaded to Firebase (Google's cloud infrastructure) so it can be restored and kept in sync across your own devices. This data is associated with your account and is only accessible to you unless you explicitly share a specific event (see below).

Event Sharing: If you invite someone to an event, that event's data becomes accessible to the people you invite, for as long as they remain a collaborator on it. The email address of anyone you invite is stored so the invite can be delivered and so collaborators can be listed and managed within the event. Anyone you invite can see the event's content, and — depending on the role you give them ("can edit" or "can view") — may be able to change it. Removing a collaborator or stopping sharing revokes their access.

Push notifications for invites: If you're signed in, the App registers a device push token (via Apple/Google's push notification services) so it can notify you when someone invites you to an event or accepts your invite. This token is tied to your account, not to any event content.

Analytics

The App uses Firebase Analytics, a service provided by Google, to collect anonymous usage data — for example, which event types are created, whether the widget or paywall is used, and general app engagement. This data:

You can learn more about how Google handles this data in Google's Privacy Policy and Firebase's Analytics documentation.

Widgets

To display your countdowns, count-ups, and tallies on your Home Screen or Lock Screen, the App uses Apple's App Groups feature to share the relevant data locally between the App and its widget extension. This data remains on your device at all times, regardless of whether Cloud Sync is enabled.

Notifications

If you enable reminders, the App uses Apple's local notification system to alert you at the times you choose. Reminder scheduling is handled entirely on-device via Apple's frameworks and is never sent to us, even if you're signed in — reminders are a per-device setting, not something we sync across your devices. Separately, if you're signed in, we send push notifications for collaboration invites, as described above.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. We do not share your event or counter content with any third party, except with the specific people you choose to invite to a shared event, and to the extent Firebase (Google) processes it on our behalf to provide Cloud Sync and Event Sharing. Anonymous usage analytics, as described above, is processed by Google/Firebase and is not shared further for advertising purposes.

Data Deletion

If you've never signed in, all your data is stored locally on your device, and you can delete it at any time by removing individual events/counters within the App, or by deleting the App itself, which removes all associated local data.

If you've signed in and used Cloud Sync or Event Sharing, you can permanently delete your account and all associated server-side data — including your synced events, uploaded photos, and pending invites — at any time from within the App under Settings → Delete Account. Deleting your account also removes your uid from any events shared with you by others; it does not delete events you don't own but were only invited to, since that content belongs to the event's owner.

Analytics data collected by Firebase Analytics is anonymous and not tied to your identity, so it cannot be looked up or deleted on an individual basis; it is retained by Google according to Firebase's standard data retention settings.

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Account sign-in, Cloud Sync, and Event Sharing are optional features intended for users old enough to hold an Apple or Google account under those platforms' own terms of service. The anonymous usage analytics described above does not identify individual users and is not used to profile or target children specifically.
